THE RIVIÈRE DU MÂT DISTILLERY AT SAINT-BENOÎT IS NOW OPEN

One of the oldest and largest distilleries on Réunion Island still in operation since 1886. Come and discover our pioneering distillery in sustainable development and the secret of Great Rhums of Reunion Island. You will also be able to see the famous Beaufonds Chimney, classified as a Historic Monument of Reunion Island, which embodies the remains of the old factory from the end of the 19th century.

Come discover our Boutique, known as the Cave à Rhums, to taste and buy our range of Great Rhums from Reunion Island.

The entire Rivière du Mât range is available: white, amber, and spiced rhums to make excellent cocktails, rhums Arrangés of all imaginable flavours, and very old traditional rhums of the finest quality, available in a case or in a gift pack.

The Distillery team will be there to advise you and guide you through this exotic journey full of bold flavours from the finest cuvées of our historic rhum Distillery.

If you are coming from the airport, follow the RN2.

At the Plaines roundabout take the 2^nd exit and continue on the RN2

At the second roundabout continue straight on the RN2.

Turn left onto the Voie Ancienne Nationale 2.

Follow the road to the roundabout and take the 3^rd exit onto Chemin de Beaufonds.

Continue on Chemin de Beaufonds, the Distillery will be on your right.

Come discover, taste, and buy our range of Great Rhums from Reunion Island in our Boutique known as the Cave à Rhums. Experience an exotic journey full of bold flavours from the finest cuvées of our historic rhum distillery.

FERMENTATION

Fermentation is the transformation of molasses to obtain alcohol. It is a traditional and natural organic process that is carried out using selected yeasts. At the end of this stage, the fermented wine we obtain already reveals the organoleptic qualities of our future rhum.

DISTILLATION

In accordance with the Protected Geographical Identification of Rhum from Reunion Island, the distillation is carried out in multi-stage columns with multiple plates, allowing the alcohol and its aromatic components to be extracted. The Master Distiller works meticulously to create a traditional white rum full of exotic flavours. The distillation residue, called vinasse, is recovered on site via methanisation.

BOILER

Essential for supplying energy to the distillation area, the boiler ensures the energy autonomy of the Distillery by using the biogas produced on site.

COGENERATION

The recovery of most of the biogas in this unit makes it possible to produce energy in the form of electricity for the public network or steam for the Distillery in addition to the boiler.

BEAUFONDS CHIMNEY

Listed as an official Historic Monument in Reunion Island since 27th June 2002, the Beaufonds Chimney, built from rubble and basalt corner stones fitted on a square base, embodies the remains of the old sugar refinery from the end of the 19th century.

METHANISATION

Anaerobic digestion is at the heart of our process of depolluting the distillation residue thanks to the energy recovered from the biogas obtained and the agronomic recycling of the digestates. This process allows the Distillery to have a permanently circular energy cycle.

					  Fantastique visite instructive puis merveilleuse dégustation  - Visite de la distillerie effectuée vendredi 25 nov. 

Très bonne et instructive visite, on a appris beaucoup de choses vis-à-vis de la fabrication du rhum. Grosse surprise d'apprendre que... Voir l’avis complet la distillerie était pionnière dans certains procédés de valorisation des produits dérivés (je n'en dirai pas plus, il faut visiter pour savoir :) ) . Le résultat étant que la distillerie est est très écologique !



La dégustation laisse place à une autre découverte agréable et on en prend pleins les papilles :) On n'a pas vu le temps passé grâce à l'équipe de Rivière du Mât. :)
